Ok So let’s talk about Real Food. I’ve been trying for three years now, to eat as CLEAN as possible…so no refined stuff….sugar, enriched flours, processed foods…and I was lucky enough to stumble across a company called REAL FOOD CONNECTIONS here in Fredericton. I’m sure if you looked into it, there are similar programs around your area, as their grocery box program. I LOVE IT!!! Every two weeks we order their grocery boxes. We order what’s called the “Large Grocery plus meat option and when available we add the fruit. So the grocery component is lot and lots of veggies – whatever is in season – so this week was onions, mushrooms, spinach, sprouts, potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, Kohlrabi (which is similar to turnip) etc…and a loaf of yummy multigrain bread made local and a slab of local cheese and a dozen free range eggs…plus our meat…cajun sausages, salmon, veal…we get spoiled 🙂 we always add more once we are at the store…apple cider or spices or goat cheese, veggie pasta, seeds, oats…you name it but we always average spending about 120$ bi-weekly. We then do our regular weekly market run and the Costco for things we can’t get at those places.
Eating local is important and knowing where your food comes from is important to. Is it more expensive? Sometimes but because we spend the extra we really try hard not to waste any of it!!! Every little bit of every little thing gets used! And Real Food Connections has educated us so much! Our garden is going to be amazing this year and a lot of that credit will go to the knowledgable staff there! THe Lawrence Family have really inspired us to care about what we eat and WHERE it comes from…and guess what!!!??? They’ve expanded into other cities with their box programs and their store now has a kitchen! AND they are hiring!!!! Ya really should check the out!
